The Omni S8 is the smaller model in our Omni subwoofer lineup. It gets its hard-hitting intensity, with near zero distortion, via a newly developed amplifier that can produce 400 watts of dynamic power and 100 watts of RMS power and a high-output 8-inch driver with a patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround. This proprietary design eliminates surround dimpling, enabling the subwoofer to play lower with greater output and fidelity. The subwoofer’s down-firing port further increases its output by using the floor as a loading surface. In fact, the Omni S8’s frequency response goes down to 27Hz, so it sounds like a much larger subwoofer and sets a new standard in its class. On the Omni S8’s front panel you’ll find three controls: level, frequency and phase. These accessible controls let you adjust your bass levels with complete ease, as well as facilitate the subwoofer’s acoustical integration with the other speakers in your system. On the back of the subwoofer, high- and low-level inputs, as well as a power mode selection increases both installation and connection flexibility. The Science Behind the Mirage Sound: Exclusive Mirage Technologies Ribbed Elliptical Surround Technology Our patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology (U.S. patent #6,725,967, Canadian patent #2,407,123) increases excursion, eliminates distortion and raises efficiency on our woofers and woofer-midranges such as those in the OC-45. While a speaker surround (suspension) permits cone movement, our proprietary Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds permits identical movement in both directions for near zero distortion and improved resolution. Our Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds also allow for a more cone surface and greater peak to peak movement than conventional designs, resulting in greater efficiency. These attributes enable our woofers and woofer-midranges to move more air with less distortion, ultimately allowing them to play lower in frequency with greater clarity and dynamics. It's perfect for small rooms and apartments, mainly because it does not shake images on the walls, but it fills the sounds wonderful. The down is SOOOOO CLEAN. Great sub sound. I've had 10 "subs you get from the CC and Bestbuy to less than 2 accounts and they are junk. Secret weapon for a good home theater Timothy Medora course, there are many other subs out there. There are other, cheaper, bigger, more powerful. The beauty of the S8 Mirage? I turned, tweaked the controls are very flexible for 5 minutes and have virtually left alone since then. It just works. I still hear the sound strained, heard it bottom out, or notice a difference in one layer in some way. It lurks in the shadows until it is required, then the challenge that I love both movies and music. I am a big fan of the design of the sleek and compact. The S8 is a good way to fill a room of small to medium size with deep bass. 4 of 4 people found this review helpful. Nice, tight sub. Good for small and medium-sized rooms. Try cheaper. By Ed J. Hayes, I do not buy this from Amazon. I paid much less than the full price and I feel like I'm in the big bin at an affordable price. On the full selling price ($ 368), there are too many sub-woofer and consider only one of them. Many U-boats well, taking off $ 300 - $ 350 range and can be a difficult choice. Price aside, there is a great sub for a small to medium size room. I find it very musical. It is not sloppy with the music and hear a variety of things keeps my house. This is a heavyweight Mirage satisfied with the movie too, especially if you raise the upper secondary level to the film (but usually leave at default on my receiver) I can feel the vibrations in the action scenes in the movie without problems, and this is my little guy can rattle the walls if I put high enough. Do not let the driver 8in out unless you have a large space to fill. VELODYNE sub and Hsu are both beautiful with 8in drivers, and both brands are good sub too. This sub takes time to break into (the manual says 50 hours and that seems right). I found after a few weeks, I had again run the calibration of my receiver, it slowly crept down as sub charger broke in fully recommend this if you can get for less than full retail.
