Pioneer research showed that more bass is required for boating applications, and this one delivers. Pioneer Nautica Speakers Designed from the ground up to meet current boating/marine requirements, Pioneer's new marine speakers incorporate superior components and design to improve sound and resist the wear and tear associated with harsh, wet environments. Water-resistant injection molded polypropylene (IMPP) composite cones, elastomer surrounds, acrylonitrile-elastomer styrene (AES) glass fiber reinforced basket/magnet covers and gold tinsel wire are all incorporated in the new Nautica speakers to endure rusting, corrosion and warping. TS-MR2040 Features Water-resistant IMPP Composite Cone Pioneer's popular injection molded polypylene (IMPP) cones produce outstanding mid-bass response and resist the effects of salt water, humidity and extreme heat. 3/4-Inch Poly-Imide Reflex Horn Tweeter The Reflex Horn design is a Pioneer innovation that delivers stunning high frequencies while at the same time providing protection for the tweeter from moisture. Elastomer Surround Each speaker utilizes an elastomer surround that resists color fading or running, which extends the longevity of the product. Acrylonitrile-Elastomer Styrene (AES) Glass Fiber Reinforced Basket/Magnet Cover The AES cover protects the magnetic circuit that can affect the performance of the speaker. The speakers also sport the pure white AES grilles to resist fading and yellowing caused by direct sunlight and heat. They are connected to a Sony 600 watt (60 watt RMS) amplifier Marina. These speakers. They will not play well without an amp (nominal is 40 watts RMS). They are the best value and is unmatched by any competitor in its price range. To get a better sound from the speaker will have to pay almost double, but not expensive speakers sound twice as good. In addition, Pioneer marine speakers hold up very well when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. I do not use a deck and the speakers still sound great 18 months later. Bass response is just acceptable, but the midrange and treble is awesome. For deep bass that will need to add a subwoofer and mono amplifier, which I did (two 10s). I recommend all consumers pioneer. If you just want to listen to speakers at the same time in the boat, they can be low, but if you plan to listen to the speakers, while anchored at a beach / sand bar, select the highest place available to them fit, I have a couple on the sides of my center console on the highest point, because I often listen to music while the boat is anchored, and I'm in the water. These Pioneer speakers sound clear, even from 50 meters away. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Great speakers, great sound ... By Bryan Drew I just installed it with a Jensen receiver / amplifier and are very happy with the sound. They produce enough sound from the center console that you can hear with both engines running and clear. They had the installation diagram and use the release. I have one pointing forward and one behind the console. I was worried this mount over the side hill, but it works well. I will be interested to see how they hold up to the time, but seem very well built and waterproof, I recommend these speakers. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good sounding speakers Navy / Outdoor By J. Krohn These speakers Pioneer TS-MR2040 Marine 8 years old replaced my Pioneer TS-MR165 Marine speakers in an institution under the eaves to music on our patio. The sound is good, much better than the speakers which replaced smaller - although a bit surprising to me, the older speakers were in poor condition, but not exposed to any direct or difficult to install eaves. I hope that replacing these columns last longer than those they replace. There seems to be some minor differences in the basic design of the two speakers, such as a rubber gasket on the new speakers. We'll have to see how they do after a few years to see. See all 3 reviews ....
